Adventures Over Land - Destinations Outside South Bali

As we know Bali Island is divided into 4 parts, namely: North Bali, East Bali, South Bali, and West Bali. Each part has its unique, beautiful, and must-visit destinations. When we talk about South Bali destinations, everyone will know that there are a lot of beaches like Kuta, Petitenget, Nusa Dua, and more which people already familiar with.

But what about the other parts of Bali? When you go to Central Bali, you may visit Ubud, one of the most popular destinations in Bali and the lakes of Buyan and Beratan in the Central Lake Districts. Have you ever gone to North Bali to watch dolphins or go to West Bali to see sacred temples and the West Bali National Park? In this article, we will give you some options and information about destinations in North, East, and West Bali.

North Bali

North Bali consists of Buleleng regency. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach North Bali by car, depending on traffic. Once you arrive in North Bali, you will be amazed by the beauty of untouched nature. On the way, you will pass by two lakes, those are Beratan and Buyan lake where you can enjoy the greenery, cool air, panoramic views while having a cup of hot coffee. In this area, you also can pick strawberry directly from the hills and orchards.

There is a  very popular waterfall in North Bali called Gitgit waterfall. Here you can swim, take a picture, or trek through the forests and observe Bali's astounding wildlife.

Once you arrived in North Bali, you will be amazed by the strong Balinese culture still practiced in these parts. We recommend you to visit Lovina Beach to watch the dolphins in the early morning. But don't be sad if you arrived in Lovina late in the afternoon. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset here and have some awesome Balinese cuisine for dinner.

East Bali

East Bali consists of Klungkung and Karangasem regency. On the way East, you will pass by Ubud in Gianyar. When you drive from South Bali to East Bali through Ida Bagus Mantra street, make sure you visit Bali Safari & Marine Park. Not a zoo but a safari, Bali Safari & Marine Park is the perfect destination to get up close and personal with wild animals from across Asia, Australia and Africa.

As you go to East Bali, you will pass a unique temple in Klungkung called 'Pura Goa Lawa' or Bat Cave Temple. In this temple you will see a lot of bat live in a cave. Next to the temple, there is a beach with many food stalls where you can take a rest before continuing you trip to East Bali. If you seeking some tourism attractions in Klungkung, you may visit its traditional market called 'Pasar Galiran'. In this market you will find a lot of traditional clothes and foods of Balinese people.

Next after Klungkung, you will enter the most eastern regency in Bali, that is Karangasem. If you ever heard about Amed, Karangasem is the place where you can find it. There are several tourists attractions that is a must to visit including Amed Beach, Taman Ujung, Tulamben Beach, Besakih Temple, Mount Agung, and many more. Read more about Amed here.

West Bali

In West Bali, you'll find Jembrana regency, home to a few of Bali's most quiet and tranquil beaches and Menjangan Island. If you start from Canggu to West Bali, you will have to go through Tabanan district and the first tourists attraction that you will find here is Bali's most well-known temple, that is Tanah Lot Temple, also one of the most popular holiday spot for the perfect Instagram shot. Legend says that Tanah Lot is home to a sacred snake that lives in the cave. It is believed that the snake is a manifestation of God who lives and protect Bali Island from disaster. A few hours away from Tabanan, you'll enter Jembrana Regency in West Bali. Jembrana is a home to the biggest harbor in Bali. The beaches here are also a favourite surfing spot and a slew of pristine, quiet beaches. This is a great destination for those wanting peace and quiet. Also, do visit the West Bali National Park or 'Taman Nasional Bali Barat', home to one hundred and seventy-five species of rare, wild animals and 110 species of corals and reefs that are a live show for you to witness. If you are lucky, you can see Jalak Bali, the special bird that is endemic to Bali.
