Hilton Hotels in Bali Celebrate Women’s Week with Community Outreach

“Empowerment from Women to Women” with Bali Mountain Women’s Coffee Cooperative

In celebration of the Hilton Women’s Week 2018, Hilton Hotels in Bali proudly engage local women in the community to amplify its commitment towards gender equality and women’s empowerment. This year, Hilton Bali Resort, Conrad Bali and Hilton Garden Inn Bali - Ngurah Rai Airport teamed up to celebrate Hilton Women’s Week with the Bali Mountain Women’s Coffee Cooperative, a local community of 105 female members in Mount Batukaru and Munduk Mountain Range. The three hotels represented by 32 Team Members visited the villages to present a series of workshops and activities to the women’s coffee cooperative.

The program began with the introduction of Thrive@Hilton, a framework focused on enabling the Hilton’s Team Members to grow and flourish in Body, Mind and Spirit. A total of over 100 women joined the fun and energizing session of aerobic workout, which is part of our commitment to supporting the wellbeing of all female farmers and seasonal workers, so they can thrive in all they do. The program also followed a Doctor Pep Talk and Medical Check Up session to allow the female farmers to truly understand about their own health management, while at the same time ensure that any possible health issues can be detected and treated accordingly. The program continued with motivational workshops emphasizing “Empowerment from Women to Women”, delivered by the Learning and Development Teams of each hotel. To conclude the visits, the three hotels presented a donation of alternative shopping bags specially designed to celebrate this occasion and promote sustainability by removing plastic bags. “Reflecting Hilton’s Travel with Purpose™ commitment to encourage shared values for business and communities around the globe, we are proud to team up with the Conrad Bali and Hilton Garden Inn Bali – Ngurah Rai Airport, to be able to give back to our local community while creating a positive impact through fostering women empowerment, strengthening local partnerships as well as supporting the production of sustainable coffee,” said Peter Simson, General Manager, Hilton Bali Resort.

“The women members of Bali Mountain Women’s Coffee Cooperative are grateful to the team from Hilton’s Bali Hotel Cluster, by bringing the ‘Empowerment from Women’ to Women initiative to our members”, said Nadine Alexandra, Spokeswoman, Bali Mountain Women’s Coffee Cooperative. Bali Mountain Women's Coffee Cooperative will be Indonesia's second all-women member cooperative to be formed, following the recent formation of Java Mountain Women’s Coffee Cooperative in Ciwidey, West Java, in October 2017. Both all women membered cooperatives have been established under the Sustainable Program of Java Mountain Coffee, an Indonesian social enterprise. Conrad Bali has been an important “measured sustainable coffee” partner of Java Mountain Coffee since 2016, with 10% of sales returning to the Women’s Empowerment Innovation Fund. Java Mountain Coffee also has a mission and U.N commitment is to empower 1 million women and plant 3 million climate resistant coffee and shade trees by 2030. Having signed the CEO Statement of Support for the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles in 2014, Hilton has placed great emphasis on promoting women in leadership, engaging women as business partners, and fostering community partnerships that invest in women and girls through education, training and professional development.
