Denpasar – General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, announced that by Wednesday afternoon, 90 flights had been canceled in a single day due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara.
“As of Wednesday at 1:00 PM WITA, there were 26 domestic and 64 international flights affected,” he said in a statement received in Denpasar on Wednesday.
The 26 canceled domestic flights included 13 departures and 13 arrivals, covering routes such as Labuan Bajo with four departures and four arrivals, Jakarta with four departures and four arrivals, Lombok with three departures and three arrivals, Tambolaka with two departures and one arrival, and Sumbawa with one arrival.
The 64 affected international routes included 34 departures and 30 arrivals. Initially, only flights to Australia were affected, but it has since spread to other countries.
For Wednesday, November 13, 2024, as of 1:00 PM WITA, there were 26 domestic flights and 64 international flights affected.
Cancellations on international routes included four departures and two arrivals for Singapore, two departures and one arrival for Hong Kong, one departure and one arrival for Doha, one departure for Delhi, one departure and one arrival for Bangalore, and one departure and one arrival for Darwin.
Additionally, flights to Sydney had four departures and four arrivals, Melbourne had six departures and six arrivals, Kuala Lumpur had five departures and four arrivals, Brisbane had two departures and two arrivals, and Pudong had one departure and one arrival.
Other routes canceled due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki included Gold Coast with one departure and one arrival, Perth with two departures and three arrivals, Cairns with one departure and one arrival, Adelaide with one departure and one arrival, and Incheon with one departure and one arrival.
Syaugi stated that these cancellations began on Monday (November 4), and between November 8-12, a total of 84 domestic and international flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport have been affected by the volcanic eruption in East Nusa Tenggara.
The airport advised affected passengers to apply for refunds, rescheduling, or re-routing.
“To assist affected passengers, we have set up help desks and refreshments, including bottled water, located on the second floor of the international terminal and the customer service area of the domestic terminal,” Syaugi added.
